Would you like to get involved
At this time we are seeking capital to continue with this project. If you have expertise in advertising, promotion etc then we would also be interested to communicate. Hobie sailors let us know if you would be up for this. (but please don't spam us as it won't be worth your while!)

Where we're at and what we need to do
Where we're at...We began working on this project in October 2010. In February 2011 Gary and Matt flew to Florida where we purchased a 31 foot Wharram designed catamaran "Saffrons Dream". Through March and April Matt and Gary refitted the boat, adding many necessary features such as a bimini shade, water tanks, new electronics etc and we then sailed her from Ft Pierce down the waterways before jumping across the Florida Straits to arrive in the Bahama islands.
We spent a week in Nassau where we spoke with lawyers and representatives of the Bahamian government about the legal procedures involved in setting up the business. We then sailed down the Exuma Cays chain, investigating possible camp locations, water depths, provisioning options etc before finally sailing into Barreterre in the North of Great Exuma. The Bahamians are incredibly friendly and everywhere we went people were open and very enthusiastic about our plans. Renting a car, we drove around the island and visited numerous small hotels and guesthouses who were also enthusiastic about working with us and most said they would be able to offer our guests accommodation whenever needed. We also costed local provisions and services and have found an excellent location to store our boats and start our expeditions fromIn May we flew back to the UK leaving Saffrons Dream safely moored. A bit of a scare in August as hurricane Irene passed over the islands but our local caretakers told us the boat was OK. We have also made contact with a German watersports company, Stickl.com who are interested to work with us in the Exumas. Presently they organise two Hobie expeditions each year in the British Virgin Islands, shipping their Hobies over for a month then shipping them back. They would rather we provide the equipment than organize the shipping and would then send us their customers. |
What we need to do... Still to do? Yes we still need to get a few things done:
